Julie Andrews shared a heartfelt tribute to the Queen as she noted that she “feels like we’ve lost a friend”.

The country’s longest-reigning Queen Elizabeth II died “peacefully” at the age of 96 in Balmoral, Scotland, on Thursday.

The legendary actress, 86, joined legions of royal fans in paying tribute to the Queen as she praised the Queen for her “love, wisdom and grace” in a statement.

Jolie, who played the Queen of Genovia in her original book The Princess Diaries, said: “A page in history has been turned today.

“Along with millions of others, I mourn the passing of our beloved Queen Elizabeth II.”

Her statement continued: “It is as if we have lost a friend: a devoted king who inspired us all with her love, wisdom and grace.

After the Queen’s death, a host of big names from the royal entertainment world were involved, including Victoria Beckham, Sir Elton John, and Mick Jagger.

This comes at a time when Britain mourns the death of its beloved King, Queen Elizabeth II. After an impressive 70 years on the throne, the country’s longest-reigning died yesterday “peacefully”, at the age of 96, in Balmoral in Scotland.

Her death sparked an immediate outpouring of emotion, as thousands of mourners gathered outside the gates of Buckingham Palace and other royal buildings yesterday evening.

At one time, the song “God Save the Queen” rang among the mourners, followed by chants of “Long live the King.”

Others laid flowers outside Windsor Castle – where the Queen spent most of her time following the death of her beloved husband Prince Philip in April last year.

In a sign of the Queen’s great influence and appeal around the world, royal fans laid flowers outside British embassies including in Washington, Berlin and Oslo.

Senior members of the royal family rushed to the queen’s bed on Thursday, but they did not reach Balmoral in time before her death, it is believed.

Sources said her two eldest children, Prince Charles and Princess Anne, who were already in Scotland at the time of the Queen’s sudden turn for the worse, were able to gain access to the monarchy before her death.

Prince Andrew, Prince Edward, his wife Sophie and Prince William all traveled from Berkshire by private jet to Aberdeen on Thursday when they rushed to Balmoral to see her. But it is understood that they did not reach the estate before her death.

Prince Harry, who was due to attend a charity event with his wife Meghan in London on Thursday, also tried to get to Balmoral in time. But he arrived at 8pm, about an hour and a half after the Queen’s death was reported to the public.

The Queen’s son Charles, the former Prince of Wales, is now King Charles III, while Prince William inherited his father’s title and is now, along with his wife, modeled after the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and Cambridge. William is now also the “apparent heir” to the British throne.
