Season 3 follows the events of “The Book of Boba Fett,” the 2021 miniseries in which the series’ protagonist Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) – better known as The Mandalorian or “Mando” – made a guest appearance. At the end of the series, Grogu, Mando’s young official, chooses to return to him after he previously left his side to train with Jedi Master Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill). The two then depart for Tatooine, with Mando on a mission to visit the “living waters” beneath the planet Mandor in order to regain his honor and become Mandalorian again. The hero will face many obstacles in his quest, chief among them other members of the people, with the trailer sparking a battle between Darin and other stoic and armored warriors.
In addition to Pascal, Carl Withers, Giancarlo Esposito, and Katie Sackhoff have been confirmed to reprise their previous roles in “The Mandalorian” for season three. The second season of “The Mandalorian” also featured Rosario Dawson’s debut as fan favorite Ahsoka Tano, who will be releasing her Spinoff series next year.
“The Mandalorian” was created by Favreau, who will write most of the season. He and Filoni executive produced with Kathleen Kennedy, Colin Wilson and Rick Famoiwa, with Lucasfilm producing the series. Weather has been confirmed to be directing an episode of the third season. Previous directors have included Bryce Dallas Howard, Deborah Chow, Taika Waititi, Peyton Reed and Robert Rodriguez. Filming for the season began in October last year and reportedly ended in March.
