Dr. Mitchell jokes, “Well, maybe I’m kidding, but there is some truth to this. Simple things like washing hands thoroughly with soap and water go a long way.

For as long as I can remember, I refused to touch doorknobs in public restrooms, if possible. I see them as a filthy petri dish of awfulness. If I can use a paper towel, my elbow, or something else to open the door, I totally support it. However, liquids such as fruit juice, milk, and soup can also increase your daily fluid intake. Avoid sugary drinks such as sodas, sports drinks, and alcohol, which can increase dehydration. When choosing a drink, look for one that has no calories or added sugars. And be sure to drink plenty of fluids even if you’re not thirsty — by the time you’re thirsty, you may already be dehydrated.”
