Minnesota is expecting superstar Mohamed Ibrahim to bounce back for this season, and hopes to help him return to a dominant level from the first month of the season. Illinois hit a squeak out of Iowa last week without a touchdown, but they could position themselves in a strong position in the Big Ten West with a win here.

  • Illinois (+6.5): Austin, Wenzel, McMahon, Zook, Kan

Indiana fired its offensive coach after losing its third game in a row, but don’t worry the basketball season for Hoosiers fans is near. Maryland has dropped a winable home game against Purdue, and is now hoping the start of the slip isn’t midway through the season.

  • MD (-11): Wenzel, McMahon
  • Indiana (+11): Austin, Zuke, Cannes

Purdue comes to her senses with back-to-back wins in Minnesota and Maryland — and she didn’t just rely on her passing game to do so. Nebraska won twice in a row under interim coach Mickey Joseph and somehow tied for the top spot in the Big Ten West.

  • Nebraska (+13): McMahon, Kan
  • Bordeaux (-13): Austin, Wenzel, Zuk

McMann’s Choice: There has been a lot of talk about “tests” in recent weeks, and this is, by far, the most difficult in Michigan to date. Penn State plays offensively balanced (and has more firepower in the running game) and has a annoying secondary, which should put pressure on the Wolverines’ passing game. But I have a strong suspicion that this might be a game where JJ McCarthy is actually using his legs to spread the Nittany Lions defensively, capturing some big yards on the ground and opening things up to attack. They need the hack game on both sides, and that may be the case. Saturday’s win makes an 11-0 start a possibility, and I expect both the coaching staff and the players to do their best. This is a game that UM usually wins at home, and I think they pull off a close match. Michigan 24, Pennsylvania 21.

Wenzel’s choice: After Paul Crest was fired and defensive coordinator Jim Leonard was appointed interim coach, Wisconsin responded with a 42-7 victory over Northwestern. Although the Wildcats had touched down five times in a row, the Badgers showed life as Graham Mertz threw for five touchdowns and Braelon Allen rushed for 135 yards. Meanwhile, Michigan State is losing 49-20 to Ohio State in another lopsided defeat and has fallen four times in a row. This is a very important game for the Spartans to get out of the slip and for their hopes of becoming a ball fitter. I think they will stay close but there were a lot of problems picking them to win now. Wisconsin 27, Michigan 24
